Bekaert Corp. In Van Buren Facing 12 OSHA Violations, $76,000 Fine

VAN BUREN (KFSM) – Bekaert Corp. in Van Buren is facing 12 citations from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and a $76,000 fine, according to U.S. Department of Labor documents.

Bekaert Corp. is at 1881 Bekaert Dr., and the company works at improving bulk and surface properties of steel wire.

OSHA issued 12 citations to the company on Tuesday (April 21), according to the documents.

The violations contained within the documents relate mostly to lead exposure and some machinery not being properly guarded to protect employees from moving parts.

The OSHA violations resulted from inspections that took place between Nov. 12, 2014 and April 2.

Bekaert Corp. will have to fix all of the issues they were cited for and pay the $76,000 fine unless they contest the citations within 15 days by sending a notice to the U.S. Department of Labor. They may also request an informal conference with the U.S. Department of Labor within 15 days.
