FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) – A criminal trespass arrest led police to find multiple marijuana plants growing in a field near the Mud Creek Trail in Fayetteville, authorities say.
On Thursday (April 23) at 12:29 a.m., police found Jacob Wetzel, 19, wandering in a building at 695 E. Van Asche Dr., according to an arrest report. Officers questioned him, and he said he was just inside the building looking around. The property owner was contacted and told police he wished to press charges against Wetzel, so the trespass suspect was arrested, authorities said.
Wetzel gave police permission to search his car, and they found a bottle of vodka, the report states. When they learned it was Wetzel’s, they asked for his permission to dump it on the ground, and he said they could. They poured it out onto the ground and asked for permission to search Wetzel’s cellphone.
He gave them permission, and they found text messages about marijuana, the report states. Wetzel was taken to the Fayetteville Police Department for questioning, and police learned he had a marijuana plant in his room, authorities said.
According to the arrest report, Wetzel gave police permission to search his residence. There, police found one marijuana plant, three glass bongs, two grinders, a scale and a wooden dugout with a small amount of pot inside, according to authorities.
Wetzel told authorities that he found a large quantity of marijuana plants in a field north of Red Robin in Fayetteville and dug up the largest one to take home, police said. He later led them to a field past the dead end of East Van Asche Drive, and they found multiple marijuana plants, the report states.
Detectives collected the evidence, and Wetzel was booked into the Washington County Detention Center. He faces charges of manufacture of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, minor in possession of alcohol, criminal trespass and loitering, jail records state.
No bond has been set for Wetzel, and his first hearing is scheduled for April 24 at 7:45 a.m., according to jail records.
