ROGERS (KFSM) - Saturday (April 14) morning started off with hundreds of runners lacing up their sneakers to participate in the Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure.

The 17th annual event, which raises money for breast cancer research, took place in Rogers at the Pinnacle Hills Promenade Mall. It started with a "Survivor Reunion Breakfast" at 6:45 a.m. where numerous cancer survivors were treated to a breakfast before the races began.

A competitive 10K was the first race scheduled beginning at 7:30 a.m. then a competitive 5K at 8 a.m. An award presentation wrapped up the day of racing that also included a fun walk, survivors parade, and non-timed 5K.

Organizers of the Komen Ozark Race for The Cure set a goal of raising $300,000 but so far have collected $171,017, according to their website.

One in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime, according to the Komen Foundation.
