OKLAHOMA (KFSM) – Students are now enrolling for a new degree in Occupational Health and Safety being offered at Carl Albert State College campuses this fall.

Kristi McConnell is the director of the new program. She said the new program will allow students to gain the skills they need to take an entry-level position in the public safety field. Students will also be able to protect people from different environmental factors at work after they graduate from the program.

“This program really originated in the 1970s,” McConnell explained. “That’s when our government really decided that we needed to have some regulations within the workplace. And now, we’re kind of on board, and there’s about 11 OSHA classes ready to be offered within the first two years of the program.”

Students who enroll in the program should expect to attend lectures and in-class demonstrations, as well as to take part in hands-on training sessions. McConnell said the students will also be trained as first responders before graduating with their OSHA degree.

Classes begin this August.
