FORT SMITH (KFSM)- The rush of rain this weekend has completely saturated the ground, causing some trees to tumble, but one family in Fort Smith was caught by surprise after part of her property rose out of the ground instead.

"Like a low thunder, and we kind of felt it in the house," Elizabeth McLaughlin said.

But it wasn't earthquake she was feeling Sunday night, it was actually the sound of her in-ground pool coming out of the earth. The rain caused the 40-year-old pool to buckle.

"I was quite surprised that the pool didn't look right and I came out and the ground had collapsed right behind it," McLaughlin said.

And it didn't end there as more rain did more damage.

"Last night, when we had the additional rain, [another] portion collapsed and we heard it go down in the family room," McLaughlin said.

She said the owner of the property believes the pool is a total loss.

"He doesn't think it will be able to be repaired. He's looking at what he has to do to get it filled in," McLaughlin said.

Despite the loss of her pool, she said she's feels lucky that all that was lost.

"I mean trees are going down all over the place and I feel I'm kinda lucky that it was the pool being raised out of the ground and not the huge trees around here on top of the house," McLaughlin said.
