FORT SMITH (KFSM) - Family, friends, and students of a beloved University of Arkansas - Fort Smith professor are coming together to say their goodbyes on Wednesday (May 13). This is after Dr. Lynn Lisk died of a heart attack earlier this month.

Dr. Lisk called the campus home for 11 years. He served as an associate professor and as the director of the first paralegal studies program on campus.

His students are working to keep his memory alive after his unexpected death. They hung up a wreath decorated with law book pages and red ink pens on  his office door in his memory. His students rememebering red markings on their homework as his way of helping them strive to do better.

Those who knew him said he loved the campus and the material he taught deeply. Lisk was involved in countless university activities and spent long hours working to get more students on campus to attend law school.

Shane Griffin, who had Lisk as a professor, said he so inspired by Lisk's class that he went to law school. "He encouraged me and navigated me to get into law school," said Griffin. He continues, "There was nobody that was more proud and happy than Professor Lisk when I passed the exam."

Linda Parker, who worked with Lisk, said he will be remembered by his humor. Parker said he loved to tell jokes. "He loved comic strips and he loved to come out and tell us a good story," according to Parker.

"We built a good friendship," said UAFS Associate Professor John Hamilton. "He would sometimes guest lecture some of my classes, and we would talk about law suits that we worked together on," said Hamilton.

Lisk's memorial service is at 2:00 p.m. at the Community Bible Church in Fort Smith.

Lisk was 54 years old. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
