FORT SMITH (KFSM) – The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith had the largest graduating class in the school’s history this year, officials say.

The university is expected to confer 1,475 degrees and certificates to its 2014-2015 graduates – a 16 percent increase over the previous school year, according to a news release.

Of the nearly 1,500 degrees, 833 are bachelor’s degrees, 349 are associate degrees and 293 are certificates, officials said.

“We celebrate the success of our students and give credit for the growing number of degrees earned to the wonderful teaching efforts of our faculty, who engage students in undergraduate research and career-focused discussions about the important next step in their lives,” said Julie Burdick, vice chancellor for enrollment management.

Dr. Paul B. Beran, UAFS chancellor, said the numbers signify the university’s continued success in achieving its mission of connecting education with careers.
