LAVACA (KFSM) - An apartment complex in Lavaca was evacuated overnight after flood waters rushed in from a nearby creek, Lavaca Police said.

Sgt. Randy Toon said a tenant at the apartment complex, located on North Davis, called 911 around 3 a.m., saying water was coming in from all sides of the apartment.

Officers arrived at the complex a short time later, where they found about two to three inches of water inside the buildings, Sgt. Toon said.

"We just went ahead and evacuated the people staying there at that time," Sgt. Toon said. "The creek behind the complex just began rising too fast."

Several people living at the complex were asked to leave at that time.

Within about an hour and a half, the water had receded, Sgt. Toon said. However, he said the tenants would not be allowed back inside their homes until the rain stops.

This is the first time that this specific complex has flooded, according to Sgt. Toon.

Crews with Lavaca Police, Lavaca Fire and the Sebastian County Sheriff's Office were all on scene, working to get the tenants out safely.

5NEWS Reporter Meredith Marney is LIVE at the complex on 5NEWS This Morning now. We'll let you know when tenants are allowed back inside.
