Deputies Arrest Teen After High Speed Chase In Fort Smith

FORT SMITH (KFSM) – A teen is in jail Sunday (May 24) morning after crashing into a Fort Smith thrift shop during a high speed chase, according to the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office.

The chase started around midnight and ended when the suspect drove into the “Savers” on Rogers Avenue next to Mercy Hospital, according to Dawn Rodriguez with the Sheriff’s Office.

Although the suspect did hit the building, the store only had minor damage, according to Sebastian County Lt. Philip Pevehouse. He also said that Arkansas State Police and the Barling Police Department were involved in the pursuit.

Pevehouse said no one was injured in the incident.

The teen, who is currently being held at the Sebastian County Detention Center, has been charged with theft of property, fleeing and resisting arrest, according to Lt. Pevehouse.
