OZARK (KFSM)- Wakarusa-goers will have to take a detour to get to the festival site following a hill slide that closed a portion of State Highway 23 north of Mulberry Moutain, according to a post on the Wakarusa Facebook page.
The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department closed three miles of Highway 23, also known as the Pig Trail, until further notice, so crews can make repairs. Both lanes of the highway cracked on May 20 after the ground underneath them slid out following days of heavy rain.
All Wakarusa traffic coming from the north will have to use Interstate 40 to get to Highway 23 at Ozark. The detour should take an additional 20-30 minutes.
The north entrance at Highway 23 and Highway 16 will be closed and all resources and staff will be moved to the south entrance, according to festival organizers. The number of vehicle check lanes will be increased to accommodate the additional traffic, but organizers expect the road closure to have little impact otherwise.
Wakarusa will be held from June 4 to 7 on Mulberry Mountain.
