SPRINGDALE (KFSM) - An eight-year-old boy was taken to a hospital after being pulled from a pool at an apartment complex in Springdale on Tuesday (June 9), according to the Springdale Fire Department.

The Springdale Fire Department responded to a call before noon Tuesday of a possible drowning at Keystone Crossing Apartments.

"We had reports that the child had already been pulled from the pool and people were doing CPR," said Capt. Dustin Kelley, with the Springdale Fire Department. "That's what the fire department found when they arrived on scene was people doing CPR on the child."

Kelley said the boy was not breathing on his own when medics got to the pool. He said the boy was taken to Northwest Medical Center in Springdale.

"When they left here, the medic crew told me that they had a heart beat, but he was not breathing on his own," he said. "They were ventilating for him."

The fire captain said the boy was at the pool with his two younger sisters. He said there were also other children and adults at the pool, including the boy's babysitter and her six-year-old son.

"She said she thought he went to the restroom," he said. "After about a minute she said she saw something at the bottom of the pool in about five feet of water. So, she jumped in and pulled the child out."

Kelley said he does not know how long the boy had been underwater before he was found. He said the boy was not wearing a flotation device, adding that the boy's mother said her son was a "good swimmer."
