FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM)-Arkansas junior pitcher Trey Killian was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the ninth round with the 257th overall pick in the 2015 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. He becomes the second Razorback chosen after Andrew Benintendi went 7th overall in the first round to the Boston Red Sox on Monday.

Killian has been Arkansas’ regular Friday starter. He pitched six innings and gave up just three runs on eight hits in Friday’s Super Regional win over Missouri State and will take the mound for the Razorbacks in Saturday’s College World Series opener against Virginia.

His sophomore season in 2014 was Killian’s most productive. He pitching 94 innings and recording a 2.30 earned run average with 14 starts. His 4-9 record didn’t support those numbers, however, as Arkansas struggled to provide run support in most his losses.

Heading into 2015 Killian battled tendonitis in his throwing arm and hasn’t seen the same numbers. He has a 4.74 ERA but boasts a better record at 3-4.

Arkansas expects junior right fielder Tyler Spoon to also get selected in the draft.
