FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM)- A Fayetteville man was arrested early Wednesday morning (June 10) on suspicion of raping a woman with a broken electric fly swatter.

Jerry Surber, 42, is being held at the Washington County Detention Center on a $250,000 bond and is facing charges of rape with an object, kidnapping, terroristic threatening, domestic battery and aggravated assault on a family or household member, according to jail records.

A probable cause affidavit states the victim was covered in fresh purple and red bruises and was being treated in an ambulance when deputies arrived on scene.

Before she was transported to Northwest Medical Center, the woman told deputies Surber was drunk and passed out in the house, according to the affidavit. At the hospital the victim told investigators Surber had been drinking most of the day and a fight broke out between the two of them after Surber accused her of cheating on him with his friend, the affidavit states.

The victim said Surber tied her left ankle with rope, but when he didn’t have enough to finish tying her up he cut it off and started repeatedly punching her on the side of the head, according to the affidavit. He then put one hand over the woman’s mouth and nose and started strangling her with the other hand until she felt like she was going to pass out, the affidavit states.

The victim told deputies Surber then grabbed a rod with an arrowhead on the end and pushed the spear inside her mouth before hitting her with the rod until it broke in half, according to the affidavit. Surber then stuck a butcher knife blade inside the woman’s nose cutting her with it, the affidavit states.

The suspect also beat the victim with an electric fly swatter until it broke, according to the affidavit. The woman told deputies Surber then used the broken handle of the fly swatter to rape her, the affidavit states.

After calling an ex-wife to brag about beating the victim, Surber urinated on the woman’s face and body telling her to hold still while he did it or he would hurt her more, according to the affidavit. He then told the victim to change her clothes and cook him something to eat before stabbing her in the leg with his fork, the affidavit states.

Surber then burned some of the woman’s family photos until he fell asleep, according to the affidavit. The victim was eventually able to sneak out of the house and called 911 from a different home, the affidavit states.

When deputies confronted Surber, he told them everything was fine and said there had been no altercation between him and the victim, according to the affidavit. Investigators noticed burned photos on the coffee table, a butcher knife on the couch, a towel with fresh blood stains on the floor and found a broken rod with an arrowhead on the end, the affidavit states.

The victim had extensive bruising all over her body, stab marks on her leg, ligature marks on her ankle, red marks on her neck and throat and a fractured nose, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit states Surber has other violent charges on his record including rape, terroristic threatening, carrying weapons and assault. He was last arrested on April 13 for assault on a family or household member, according to the affidavit. Surber was out on bond for a prior assault when he was arrested Wednesday, the affidavit states.

The victim said Surber made numerous threats against her if she called police saying he would kill her and her family, the affidavit states.

Jail records show Surber’s first court appearance regarding this most recent arrest is scheduled for May 12.
