FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM)- The final day of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft saw two more Arkansas Razorbacks taken off the board.
Junior infielder Bobby Wernes was selected by the Houston Astros in the 30th round with the 889th overall pick.
Wernes was named to the All- SEC Defensive team and has made two appearances on SportsCenter’s #SCTop10 this season, including the No. 1 play on March 18.
At the plate, Wernes is hitting .280 with seven doubles, six triples and five home runs. He ranks second on the team in runs scored during the NCAA Tournament, while his six triples on the year is the most by any Arkansas player since the 2002 season.
Redshirt junior right fielder Tyler Spoon will join teammate Andrew Benintendi in Boston after being picked in the 35th round, No. 1,041 overall.
The Van Buren native has been Arkansas’ cleanup batter all year and ranks second in the team with a .331 batting average, six home runs and 54 RBIs, all behind Benintendi.
Spoon will also be making his first trip to the College World Series this week due to a redshirt season in 2012.
In his first year as a redshirt freshman in 2013, Spoon was named a Freshman All-American after leading the team with 49 RBIs.
This is the second time Spoon has been drafted. He was taken by the Oakland A’s in the 37th round last year.
Benintendi was picked on the first day, seventh overall. The other Razorback to be selected was junior pitcher Trey Killian going 257th overall in the ninth round to the Colorado Rockies.
