BETHEL HEIGHTS (KFSM) – A Bethel Heights man was arrested after authorities say he raped an underage girl.
David A. Cannaday, 46, was booked into the Benton County Jail on June 9 at 11:50 a.m. and faces a charge of rape, according to detention center records.
On May 18, police learned of the victim from a local school resource officer. Authorities later made contact with the victim and her mother, taking the underage girl to a Child’s Advocacy Center for a forensic interview, according to an arrest report.
During the interview, the minor told investigators that she was raped once by Cannaday and touched inappropriately, police said. She said she tried to push him away, but his body weight was on her, according to the report.
On May 26, police learned that the victim tested positive for Chlamydia, authorities said. The next day, authorities received a court order to test Cannady, the report states.
On May 29, Cannady was tested a local hospital. Police learned on June 8 that he also tested positive for Chlamydia, according to authorities.
An arrest report was issued for Cannady on June 8, and he was booked into jail the next day.
The suspect’s bond has been set at $50,000, and his next court date is scheduled for July 20, according to detention center records.
