FORT SMITH (KFSM) — Looking for something to do this weekend? Parrot Island Waterpark will hold a Pink Out program, starting Friday (June 12).
Wearing pink is a great way to bring cancer awareness and prevention to the community. It’s a friendly reminder for women to get their mammograms, for men to get tested for prostate cancer and for everyone to get checked for skin cancer during these summer months.
The Donald W. Reynolds Cancer Support House will have a booth at Parrot Island. Susan Steffens is the Executive Director of the Support House and she said, “We are grateful to Parrot Island for inviting us to participate in their Pink Out program this weekend.”
Over 5000 cancer fighters and survivors along with their family members are treated with the cost-free services and programs provided through the Donald W. Reynolds Cancer Support House.
The Cancer Support House will have a booth set up at the waterpark to display their Sun Smart program funded by the Arkansas Cancer Coalition. They will provide bracelets for children that will change color in the sun as a reminder to put on sunscreen early and often to prevent skin cancer.
A drive for nutritional shakes like Ensure and Boost will also be taking place. Steffens said, “Boost and Ensure is needed for cancer patients, and our pantry is completely empty.”
If you bring a donation of Boost or Ensure to the Donald W. Reynolds Cancer Support House booth at Parrot Island, you will be entered into a drawing for a beautiful turquoise necklace valued at $300. The necklace was donated to the foundation by the Arkansas Cancer Coalition.
