ARKANSAS (KTHV) —  Saturday (June 13th) was the Natural State’s birthdate.

There are 179 candles on that cake. Historic Arkansas Museum and the Old State house each heldstatehood day events, giving visitors some chores and a little educational fun.

“People get to experience what life was like 179 years ago right here in Little Rock. As a traveler both in time and in place,” said Ian Beard.

Volunteers dressed up in 1836 clothing and held activities to take you back to the time when Arkansas was born. In addition, even though Saturday was the day Congress ratified Arkansas statehood, people here didn’t get the word back from Washington until around July 4th.
