GREENWOOD (KFSM) - A Greenwood woman who was arrested on suspicion of stealing a police cruiser and crashing it into a gas line is set to make her first court appearance Wednesday morning (June 24th), according to jailers at the Sebastian County Detention Center.

Jessica Sterling, 23, was arrested earlier this month on 15 charges including DWI, criminal mischief and theft of property after Greenwood Police Chief Will Dawson said she stole one of the department's SUVs. Sterling, who was handcuffed in the backseat of the SUV, managed to get her handcuffed wrists from the back of her body to the front, Dawson said. She then slid the partition window open and climbed into the front seat of the vehicle, according to Dawson. Sterling then sped off, crashing the vehicle four miles later on Long Ridge Road.

When officers arrived at the scene of the crash, they reported that Sterling was attempting to get an assault rifle out of a locked gun box, Dawson said.

Sterling is set to appear before a Sebastian County judge Wednesday at 9:00 a.m., jail records state.

According to jailers at the Sebastian County Detention Center, a bond for Sterling has not been set.
