BENTON COUNTY (KFSM) – The Army Corps of Engineers is set to open the Beaver Dam spillway, officials said.
The spillway releases from Beaver Dam will take place during an unscheduled outage of its hydropower turbines, according to a news release.
“Because of heavy rains from Tropical Storm Bill, rainfall runoff is still causing Beaver Lake to rise,” the Army Corps of Engineers said. “The minimum flood release is required to ensure the lake does not exceed its flood storage capacity.”
Trout located immediately downstream of the dam may be affected by the open spillway because water released through turbines is colder than water released through the spillway, officials said.
