CENTERTON (KFSM) – The City of Centerton is preparing for the new Bentonville West High School, more than one year before it is scheduled to open.

Mayor Bill Edwards said the city is working on developing the surrounding area, as the school is being built.

"The whole community is behind this. Right now we are just making arraignments to get ready for the school as far as the city goes,” Edwards told 5NEWS. “We are making some infrastructure changes right now, doing road work around the school. We are getting ready for that while the school is being built.”

The school is expected to host more than 2,500 students a school year.

The building is already under construction, and will house 400,000 square feet worth of educational facilities for the new students.

The school’s mascot has been selected as the wolverine. The school colors are blue and gold.
