ROGERS (KFSM) -- Expecting larger crowds than usual for former U of A golfer Stacy Lewis, organizers at the LPGA tournament in Rogers have increased the number of seats available for spectators.

New structures, stands and bleachers have been set up to accommodate thousands of fans. Seating at the first tee is built like an amphitheater, with stadium-style seat.

"The first tee in a golf event is always a little nerve racking for the players," said Harry Hardy, tournament director. " Now there's an area for fans to sit and watch and receive those players onto the tee, giving them an ovation when they walk on."

In addition to Lewis, two current University of Arkansas golfers, Samantha Marks and Gabriela Lopez, will compete in the tournament.

The tournament, called the Walmart Northwest Arkansas Championship Presented by P&G, is being held at Pinnacle Country Club.

Hardy added that the viewing deck on the 9th hole is a good place to watch players attack the flag day after day. He said the 17th hole is the most popular, with an air-conditioned public viewing area.

The 18th hole is the most exciting for spectators, Hardy said, with a wrap-around deck. He said he is not aware of any seating like it on the LPGA tour or even in professional golf as a whole.

Hardy said he expects more people to attend the tournament when the opening rounds begin Friday (June 26). The tournament ends Sunday.
