Preparing For The Riverfront Blues Festival

FORT SMITH (KFSM) – With the recent flooding of the Arkansas River, there was a bigger mess than usual to clean up at the riverfront for the annual Blues Festival.

“Just cleaning up the mud -- we just got through bleaching and power washing the stage. We had to rebuild all of our electrical panels. The fire department came out and helped us get [most] of the mud. We’re ready for them,” Mike Cook said.

Now that the water from the flooding is gone, Cook and his co-workers with the city's parks and recreation department are putting the final touches on the lawn for blues fest.

“We're ready for a big party this weekend,” Cook said.

And he's not the only one ready to party.

Jerry Davis has been going to every year since 2006, and he's polishing up his dancing skills for this weekend.

"The crowds, they come together as one and we just have a good time every year,” Davis said.

He said even if you're into other kinds of music, the festival is still a fun experience.

"It's for everybody -- because we know the blues is not only about sad times, it's about the joys of life also,” Davis said.

There will be a blues history display, and for the first time this year, free fun all day Saturday before the music gets going.

The festival kicks off tomorrow in Alma at Warren’s Rec Room.
