CLEBURNE COUNTY (KFSM) – One county clerk in Arkansas plans to resign due to moral objections to issuing same-sex marriage licenses, officials say.

Cleburne County Clerk Dana Guffey announced on Monday (June 29) that she plans to resign, according to affiliate station KTHV – Channel 11.

This comes after the Supreme Court ruled on Friday (June 26) that states must allow same-sex marriages.

Although she wasn’t named by him, Sen. Jason Rapert, R-Conway, posted on his Facebook page on Sunday (June 28) that he knew of a county clerk that was resigning over the issuing of same-sex marriage licenses. Rapert has continually made Facebook posts opposing the Supreme Court’s gay marriage ruling.

Guffey will officially resign on Tuesday (June 30), KTHV reported.
