FORT SMITH (KFSM) -- Two slides at the new Parrot Island Water Park will be closed for updates starting Monday.

The  "Tangerine Twist" will be closed as crews work to make the slide less aggressive for children.

The "Blue Macaw" and the "Tangerine Twist  will be closed Monday (June 29) through Thursday (July 2) as crews work to make the modifications. The blue slide is not being updated however, they are having to move the slide to they can better access the "Tangerine Twist."

Parrot Island said that the modifications are being made after several customers came forward, saying the slides were a little too rough for kids.

5NEWS spoke to Parrot Island General Manager Bill Miller about how crews plan to tweak the slides. Miller said, "We're adding a hundred feet of extra slide space to draw out some of the corners, and to be able to take out some of the drops and elevation so it's not as fast as it has been."

Crews said most of the work will be done during the night while the water park is closed.

Leaders said the modifications being made to the slides are being done at no additional costs.

Hope to Gawd this is the last fix for this dang park. The thing needs a stoplight like the city needs another Convention Center.
