July Declared Lake Appreciation Month

FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) - Governor Asa Hutchinson made July Lake Appreciate Month in the Natural State, as a way to encourage all Arkansans to appreciate the lakes.

One of most visited and prized lakes is Beaver Lake in Northwest Arkansas. In a "5NEWS This Morning" segment that ran Sunday (July 12), anchor Daren Bobb spoke to the Executive Director of the Beaver Watershed Alliance John Pennington. He said the last figures he saw places the recreational value of Beaver Lake on the area's economy at $43 million.

He also said Arkansas is a water rich state but communities in the west and east coast are being crippled because they don't an abundant water supply.

The Beaver Watershed Alliance is a non-profit that maintains, sustains, and improves the water at the lake.
