SPRINGDALE (KFSM) – Springdale is getting a solar power generation facility built by Ozarks Electric, the power company announced on Wednesday (July 15).

The one-megawatt facility will be constructed in eastern Springdale and will contain 3,927 panels across five acres of land when completed, according to a news release. Springdale Mayor Doug Sprouse said the facility will be located along Highway 412 east of Butterfield Coach Road.

Construction is expected to begin in September, and the facility should be fully operational by March 2016, the release states.

“We are thrilled to be able to be the first in the state to build and maintain a facility such as this,” said Mitchell Johnson, president/CEO of Ozarks Electric.

The facility will be the first utility-scale, member-owned solar power generation facility in The Natural State, officials said.
