Little Rock K9 Officer Dies From Heat-Related Illness After Chasing Suspect

LITTLE ROCK (KFSM)- A Little Rock Police Department K9 Officer died in the line of duty Wednesday (July 16), according to a release from the police department.

K9 Officer Titus was involved in a lengthy foot chase with a suspect who had stolen property from a vehicle he had broken into, the release states. Upon locating the suspect, officers attempted to place him under arrested, but when he resisted officers released Titus who apprehended the suspect, according to release.

Following the chase, Titus started exhibiting signs of heat-related distress and was rushed to Briarwood Animal Hospital where he did not respond to treatment, the release states.

According to the release, Titus was a critical member of the LRPD for three years and his efforts led to countless arrests. Titus was loved by the community and his fellow officers, and will be deeply missed.
