Johnson Still Leads Open Championship Despite Rain Shortened Friday

U.S. Open runner up has lead at St. Andrews despite second round being suspended
Dustin Johnson

Not even a nearly three hour rain delay could slow down Dustin Johnson at The Open Championship at St. Andrews on Friday.

The American entered the second round in the lead after an opening round 65 and he followed that up by going 3-under through his first 13 holes before play was suspended due to darkness. Johnson will resume his round Saturday morning, sitting at 10-under for the tournament, before teeing off for the third round in the afternoon.

Johnson’s first bogey of the tournament came at No. 11, ending a stretch of 28 holes at par or better.

Former Razorback David Lingmerth found himself in contention after an opening round of 3-under 69 but an even-par round on Friday has Lingmerth seven strokes off the pace. John Daly fired a 1-under 71 on Thursday but will likely miss the cut after a 2-over 74 on Friday.

Danny Willett is the clubhouse leader as he’s at 9-under for the tournament after a second round 69. Paul Lawrie and Jason Day are currently two strokes off the lead but still have at least six holes each remaining in their second round.
