It would be easy to stay stagnant with your coaching staff if you are Bob Stoops.
The longtime Oklahoma coach had a former Heisman Trophy winning quarterback in place as his offensive coordinator. But an inconsistent offense coupled with a disappointing 8-5 season in 2014, Stoops made the decision to part ways with Josh Heupel.
Then he went out and got who most considered the hottest name in college football - Lincoln Riley.
Riley led East Carolina to the number three ranked passing offense in the country in 2014 as they averaged more than 370 yards through the air. Only Washington State and Western Kentucky averaged move.
Riley has ties to the conference as he spent time at Texas Tech and it's taken no time for his new offensive players to adapt to his style.
"Coach Riley is one of those guys that loves to throw the ball around which I love," Oklahoma receiver Sterling Shepard said. "He simplifies the offense for us. He makes everything so easy. That way you can go out there and play your game."
Riley was also thrown into an ongoing quarterback battle as returning starter Trevor Knight is competing against Texas Tech transfer Baker Mayfield for snaps. Even though he could lose his starting job, Knight said the move to a more uptempo offense is a natural transition.
"It's been different. Obviously changing offenses but it's been a smooth transition," Knight said. "Our guys have handled it really well and coach Riley has really made it easy on us just to kind of pick up where we loft off as far as routine goes."
