FORT SMITH (KFSM) — Some of the best golfers in the area will be in Fort Smith to compete in the PGA Junior Tour Regional for a chance to go to Nationals.

The competition is being held at the Ben Geren Golf Course, off Zero Street, throughout the day Thursday (July 23).

The kids, all of whom are between the ages of 10 and 17, are from Arkansas, Oklahoma and Kansas.

Channon Toland, the Parks Administrator for Sebastian County, said the tournament is a big deal both for the golfers and for the greater Fort Smith community.

“It’s good for Fort Smith because we have people staying in the hotels and eating at area restaurants,” Toland said. “Hopefully people will experience the area, and our golf course, and want to come back and play.”

The top winners from Thursday’s competition will go on to play at national events later this season.
