Third Grader To Compete For National Motocross Title

Ethan Leonard has been racing dirt bikes since he was four. He’s now competing for his first national championship in his own backyard.

CAULKSVILLE (KFSM) - In less than two months, racers from all over the country will be here at Sundance Motocross Park competing for a national title. Ethan Leonard, who is a third grader at Lavaca, practices here every week and will be among the youngest out on the track.

"This is where I train a bunch because I live like 20 minutes away from here," Ethan said. "This is the only track I barely get to ride on. So, I'm training really hard for the national coming up."

Bobo, as he's called, has been racing since he was four years old. The past two years he's won a state title. Now he's looking for his first national championship right here in his own backyard.

"I think i'm going to do good because most of the kids coming here have never been here before. There's only a few kids that have been here," Ethan said.

Even though this is Bobo's home track, he'll still have to ride his best. The competition level out here will be one of the best.

"It's going to take a lot of practice," Ethan's father Lance Leonard said. "We've been talking to the Kings here about practicing on this track, running the whole track."

But the biggest thing is, he has his whole family behind him.

"It takes a lot of hard work, a lot of dedication. It's a family sport. it takes mom, dad, sisters, everybody's gotta be in it, or it just doesn't work," Lance said.

This team is confident Bobo can bring home his first national title in September.
