FORT SMITH (KFSM) – The Southside High School Marching Band will begin practicing the new school fight song today (Monday, Aug. 3).

According to longtime Southside Principle Wayne Haver, “Wabash Cannonball” will now replace “Dixie”.

The school voted last week (July 27) to change the fight song for the 2015-2016 school year and to change the Rebel mascot known as Johnny Reb by the 2016-2017 school year.

Haver said that Southside will use a more upbeat and fast-paced version of the song, which is used by Kansas State University. Southside will also use a shorter version of the song that will be played after Southside makes a touchdown.
