FORT SMITH (KFSM) -- The Fort Smith Board of Directors approved the final step in fluoridating the city's water at its meeting Tuesday evening (August 4).

In a 5-2 vote, the directors approved a $249,000 grant from Delta Dental to pay for engineering services related to the Lake Fort Smith and Lee Creek Fluoride Feed Systems.

Fort Smith is the largest city in Arkansas that does not have fluoride in its water.

The city of Greenwood began adding fluoride to its water supply last month.
