BENTON COUNTY (KFSM) — A man was arrested Sunday (August 2) after a Benton County deputy found him asleep in a car with methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in a suitcase, according to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.
Brandon Alan Hobson, 28, is being held at the Benton County Jail on $5,000 bond and is facing numerous charges including possession with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and DWI, jail records show.
A Benton County deputy was dispatched to Indiana Hills Boulevard on Saturday at around 11:20 p.m. after dispatch was told there was a Honda Accord with Oklahoma license plates parked in the roadway with a man inside with his head down, according to a probable cause affidavit.
The Honda’s motor was running and its external lights were off, but the dome light inside was on along with music, the affidavit states. Hobson appeared to be asleep in the car with his head hunched forward, according to the affidavit. The deputy was able to see an unlabeled bottle of medication with more than one type of pill inside the vehicle and woke Hobson up by knocking on his door, the affidavit states.
The deputy asked Hobson to get of out the car and a syringe fell out as he exited, according to the affidavit. The suspect also had slurred speech, swayed while standing, appeared tired and behaved sluggishly, the affidavit states.
Suspecting Hobson could be in possession of controlled substances, the deputy searched the suspect and the Honda, according to the affidavit. The deputy found a black suitcase in the back seat with multiple pouches full of suspected meth, two glass meth pipes, two weighing scales, three spoons, three unused syringes and other drug paraphernalia inside it, the affidavit states. The combined weight of the suspected meth in the suitcase was 50 grams and the pill bottle contained OxyContin and Morphine, according to the affidavit.
Hobson told the deputy he had injected himself with OxyContin before falling asleep in his vehicle, according to the affidavit. He also said the suitcase and its contents did not belong to him and the white substance in the suitcase was used to “cut methamphetamine,” the affidavit states.
Hobson was taken to Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville where he submitted to a blood test and was later booked into the Benton County Jail, according to the affidavit.
