FORT SMITH (KFSM) - An event scheduled for Labor Day weekend is bringing a lot of first to downtown Fort Smith. Artists are planning to paint murals on several buildings in what an organizer describes as the first internationally curated street art festival in Fort Smith.

For a "5NEWS This Morning" segment that aired Saturday (August 8), anchor Daren Bobb spoke to John McIntosh - the driving force of the "Unexpected Project." He said downtown is the heart and soul of Fort Smith and that this event is an economic development drive. He also said that the University of Arkansas Fort Smith and several businesses have partnered with his organization to bring artists with a large body of work.

Attendees will be encouraged to snap photos of the painted murals and to upload them on social media. Click on this link for more information.
