Austin Allen More ‘Mature’ Heading Into 2015

Younger Allen starting to step out of the shadows of older brother

FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) - The backup quarterback is often the most popular player on the roster if you ask the fans but Austin Allen is starting to gain favor from his head coach as well.

Austin Allen has been in the shadow of older brother Brandon for his entire football career but the younger Allen has started to come into his own.

"It began to show up a little bit in spring," Arkansas coach Bret Bielema said. "Probably one of the most improved players on our team. "We had a personnel meeting (Sunday) morning where we talked he's going to get more reps now just because we need to keep bringing that guy along."

Allen threw just 16 passes last season, completing eight but his older brother is now in his final year of eligibility and Austin Allen said he knew it was time for him to take the next step.

"It's crazy how things go by so fast," Allen said. "I remember being a freshman at these media days now it's my third media day. Just to see how fast it's going, kind of a light bulb clicked where it needs to be serious. I need to be more serious to get things going the right way."

Allen was 8-of-16 for 153 yards with an interception for Arkansas last season.
