On this week's Flavors Where You Live, we're at the Fort Smith's Farmers Market located between Rolando's and Garrison Bridge. We're here looking at the vast variety of items that they have available

While you might think of a Farmers Market as being a great place to not only buy fresh produce and also support your local farmers, but that's just two of the many draws to this wonderful event. There are so many different items available, not just fruits and vegetables. On the weekends they average about 60 to 70 different vendors set up selling.

With that many participants you can imagine the wide array of items available.

If you don't know how to prepare your new food finds, the vendors are happy to give you tips and recipes to ensure your culinary success when you get home. You are guaranteed to find something to please your palate.

There's also all natural, grass fed meats that are free from antibiotics, steroids and growth hormones. Chemical free isn't just the standard for the meats here as co-founder Joe Carr explains. "A lot of us care about soil conservation. We care about the soil. We use a minimum of chemicals. I don't use any myself and we're trying to hear our production towards organic."

It's also a great place to find one of a kind gifts. You can pick up unique treasures ranging from crochet creations to soap to jewelry. Local jewelry maker Raymond Gaster explains why he loves the market so much. "Everything that is out here is made by craftsmen that are on site. There is no reselling of items purchased. It's all high quality craftsmanship and you can actually see some of the vendors manufacturing what the make out here. They have very stringent standards as far as what is placed out here."

With live music playing and people out enjoying the weekend morning with friends, family and pets in hand, you get a real sense of community here. The market is open Tuesdays and Saturdays from 7 a.m. until noon year round making it convenient to eat fresh and support your local community.
