SEQUOYAH COUNTY (KFSM) — One man is dead and another is injured after a rollover accident in Sequoyah County Monday afternoon (Aug. 17).

Troopers with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol identified the victim as Bryan Lewis, 53, of Marietta, Georgia. The other man injured in the accident was Steven Jones, 33, of Muldrow. Both Lewis and Jones were passengers in the single-vehicle accident.

Troopers said it happened on Oklahoma State  Highway 141, just three miles west of Gans, around 3:30 p.m.

The driver of the 2000 Ford Explorer was nowhere to be found when first responders arrived, troopers said. They then determined that he or she struck a culvert which caused the vehicle to roll over twice before coming to a stop.

Lewis, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time, was ejected about 30 feet from the vehicle, according to the crash summary report. He was pronounced dead from massive head and trunk internal injuries at the scene, troopers said.

Jones was transported by ambulance to Sparks Regional Hospital in Fort Smith, where he is being treated for arm and trunk internal injuries. He is in stable condition at last check.

Troopers said they’re currently working to figure out who was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident. They’re also working to answer certain questions about how the accident happened, authorities said.

Anyone with information about who the driver of the vehicle was, or who may have witnessed the accident, is asked to call Muskogee Troop of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol at (918) 683-1782.
