SPRINGDALE (KFSM) — The Springdale School District identified the school bus driver involved in a crash on the first day of school.

Rick Schaeffer, the school district spokesman, said Tuesday (August 18) the bus driver’s name is Lisa Knauf and she was not injured, but is taking a couple days off following Monday’s accident. Knauf checked on all the students following the head-on collision before tending to herself, Schaeffer said.

Knauf’s driving record is considered a personnel issue, so it will not be released, but Schaeffer said she is an excellent driver.

About a dozen students had to be checked out by first responders Monday after sustaining minor injuries when a car hydroplaned and struck their school bus on Sonora Road just north of Arkansas Highway 412, school officials said.
