FORT SMITH (KFSM) -- In an effort to raise money to further the construction of the U.S. Marshals Museum along the Arkansas River in Fort Smith, two Walmart stores in the River Valley are selling commemorative coins at their locations starting Saturday (August 22).

For a "5NEWS This Morning" segment that ran Saturday, anchor Daren Bobb spoke to Alice Alt with the U.S. Marshals Museum. She said the museum partnered with Walmart to sell its silver coins at the Fort Smith location on Zero Street and the Greenwood store on Liberty Drive. Alt said a large display will be dedicated to the coins in the sporting good section and the sale will go throughout the year to attract the holiday shopping crowd.

They plan to hold a free community event at the Zero Street location on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. offering food and refreshments. The first ten people to arrive will receive a free t-shirt. Each individual silver coin will cost $51.95.
