WASHINGTON COUNTY (KFSM) — A former Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputy was sentenced to 10 years probation August 17 after pleading guilty to insurance fraud and terroristic threatening, according to court records.

Steve Hulsey, 43, received 60 months probation for insurance fraud and another 60 months probation for terroristic threatening in the first degree, records show.

Hulsey was arrested April 27 after he was accused of choking his former wife and locking himself in a bedroom with guns at a home in Greenland, according to police reports. Hulsey resigned as deputy before he was booked into the Washington County Detention Center.

Hulsey was originally charged with terroristic threatening and aggravated assaulted, according to court records.

The former deputy was also accused of insurance fraud for falsely applying for insurance coverage in 2014 and listing his wife on the policy when the two had been divorced since 2004.
