FORT SMITH (KFSM) — This Labor Day weekend, drivers are expected to save $1.4 billion at the pump, according to GasBuddy.com

On Wednesday (Sept. 2), many drivers were filling up at the Sunshine Gas Station on Kelley Highway in Fort Smith for $1.97.

As millions of Americans prepare to hit the road this weekend and fill up at the pump, GasBuddy senior petroleum analyst Patrick DeHaan explained why prices have dropped.

“Gas has fallen tremendously due to a huge drop in crude oil that is the primary difference between this year and last year,” DeHaan said. “In Arkansas it’s a huge change. Some stations under two dollars a gallon in the state while the state wide average is about two dollars and fifteen cents that’s dollar and five cents lower than what Arkansas motorists were paying last year.”
