FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) – It was supposed to be a battle of dominant running teams but it was the Arkansas passing game that stole the show in the season opener.

Brandon Allen set a new career high with 308 yards passing and tied his personal record of four touchdowns, all of which came in the first half, as Arkansas flew past UTEP 48-13.

“I’m very impressed with Brandon,” Arkansas running back Alex Collins said. “I see him practice every day and he’s come a long way and he’s become so much better. For him to show everybody else what he can do, it just makes me proud for him.”

Allen finished 14-of-18 passing and his connection with Keon Hatcher has carried over from the 2014 season. Hatcher hauled in six passes for 106 yards and two scores.

“Obviously we’ve thrown to each other for a long time,” Allen said. “We’ve got that trust, that rapport within. I know where’s going to be able to catch the ball. It’s just up to me to give me a chance. He did well today.”

Collins ran for 134 yards and a score with 70 yards coming on the final play of the first half.
