FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) — According to the Fayetteville Police Department, a woman reported an assault at Lake Fayetteville at about 2:22 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 13).

When officers arrived on scene, the woman told them she was assaulted by a white man who appeared to be about 30-years-old, police said. The assault happened near the botanical gardens close to mile marker three. He was last seen wearing a hat, a dark gray or black shirt and cargo shorts and was last seen heading west on the Lake Fayetteville trail, according to police.

On Monday, police received an update with information about the vehicle the suspect may have been driving. According to police, the man was possibly seen driving a 1990s model Ford Ranger regular cab pickup. The eyewitness described the paint as being faded and dull.

Police ask anyone with information to call the Fayetteville Police Department at 479-587-3555.

A Facebook post from a woman who writes that she was attacked on the trail states:

“Around 2:15 [Sunday], I was attacked and beaten by a stranger while running the Lake Fayetteville trail. The man punched me repeatedly to get me to stop screaming and dragged me into the woods in broad daylight. Luckily, I was able to call 911 and get away. Just a word of caution to anyone who frequents this beautiful trail to be on the lookout, because the cops haven’t found him yet.”
