FORT SMITH (KFSM) - The University Of Arkansas Fort Smith is hosting its first cross country invitational on Saturday.

For a "5NEWS This Morning" segment that aired Sunday (September 13), anchor Daren Bobb spoke to Kyle Jarnagin with the UAFS Booster Club. He said this is a banner year for the school's athletic program and launching this will help with recruitment. The competitive 5k invitational is scheduled for the morning of September 19th at Trinity Catholic Junior High School in Fort Smith. The public is welcomed to attend the 5k race, and they will be able to register the day of the event.

Jarnagin said it will be a NCAA regulated race with all the league's rules being applied. They'll also have a vendors village inviting local businesses to participate so people are made aware of their services.
