FRANKLIN COUNTY (KFSM) -- The Franklin County Sheriff's Office raised $1,500 for its Shop With a Cop Program this weekend, according to Sheriff Anthony Boen.

The department sold hundreds of pumpkins in front of the Franklin County Courthouse, located on the Ozark Square both Thursday (Sept. 10) and Friday (Sept. 11). All of the pumpkins had been grown and harvested by trustees at the county jail.

"We didn't charge a set price for the pumpkins," Sheriff Boen explained. "Instead, we just asked that people donate what they could to our Shop With A Cop Program."

Sheriff Boen said it's great seeing different people at the department come together to raise money for area children in need ahead of the upcoming holiday season.

"It just makes you feel good and it all goes to a great cause," Sheriff Boen said. "The trustees really enjoy it. They like helping out in the community."

Sheriff Boen said an estimated 90 kids will be chosen to participate in this year's Shop With A Cop Program. The kids selected will get to walk hand-in-hand with a law enforcement official around the Ozark Walmart, selecting toys they want for Christmas. Sheriff Boen said each child will get an estimated $125 to spend at the event, which is scheduled to take place in Mid-December.
