Huntsville Community Rallies Around Victims Of Deadly Crash

HUNTSVILLE (KFSM) — The Huntsville community is both remembering the teen victim of a deadly crash between an SUV and a school bus and rallying around the teen who survived.

The girls have been identified as Shelby Dotson, 15, and Taylor Crumley, 15, both Huntsville High School students, in various Facebook posts asking the community to keep the teens and their families and friends in its thoughts.

Dotson was a little over two weeks shy of turning 16 when the SUV she was in crashed into the back of a Huntsville school bus Monday morning (Sept. 21), according to her obituary.

She was an honor student at Huntsville High were she was a football manager for the Huntsville Eagles, a member of the Class Council, secretary of her class for two years and a member of the 2014 homecoming court, her obituary states. She was also a member of FCCLA, DECA, FBLA, Crew, Drama Club and the Fellowship of Christian Athletics, according to the obituary.

A celebration of Dotson’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24 at Eagle Stadium at Huntsville High School, and her funeral at the Sparks/Huntsville Cemetery will follow, the obituary states.

A Tuesday post on the Hunstville High School FCCLA page states:

“Yesterday tragedy struck Huntsville High School. FCCLA lost a member, a classmate, and a friend. Shelby Dotson was not only an intelligent, and beautiful young lady. She was the type of person to make everyone feel as if they belonged as one. Shelby impacted many lives in our community. She left an impression in our hearts that will never be forgotten. We ask that you please pray for her family, her friends, her sweet boyfriend, the HHS facility, and the Huntsville community. We also ask for prayers for her dear friend Taylor Crumley who was also involved in the accident, Taylor has a long road of recovery ahead of her and definitely could use our prayers.

Please watch for updates, one of our committee leaders is currently working with No Boundaries Sports on a memorial shirt for Shelby, and all of the profit will be going towards the Dotson family.”

A memorial fund has been set up to help her family. Donations can be give to the Shelby Rae Dotson Memorial Fund at Cornerstone Bank.

Crumley, who was the driver of the SUV, was taken by helicopter to a Missouri hospital following the crash and boy who was in the back seat was uninjured and did not have to be taken to the hospital, according to Arkansas State Police.
