DELAWARE COUNTY, Okla. (KFSM) -- A Siloam Springs man was shot and killed in an apparent hunting accident on Saturday (Sept. 26) outside West Siloam Springs, Oklahoma, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
Several men were hunting in a wooded area near County Roads 520 and 700 on Saturday afternoon when one of the men accidentally shot Donald Upton, 28, from Siloam Springs, the department said.
Agents said the investigation is ongoing. They said the Delaware Sheriff's Office reached out to the bureau for assistance. Crime scene analysts were sent to the woods to take a closer look. They said no arrests have been made.
"We know who fired the weapon that caused the death of the individual. we certainly knew who that was. but it will be up to the district attorney on depending on whether or not that was an accident or something more sinister,"Jessica Brown with OSBI said.
Upton's family sent the following message to 5NEWS:
"Donnie was and is a very loving man who loved his wife and children more than anything! He would help anyone that needed it , no matter what. But that's how he was raised. He loved cars, racing, boxing, and spending time with his family. He is leaving behind a BIG family and so many friends. This is truly a shock to our whole family. We ask for prayers and to not judge the family or the other family who is also mourning this loss. Both families are grieving."
His body is being taken to Oklahoma's chief medical examiner for an autopsy.
