Temperatures have been feeling like fall and comfortable lately but the trend changes for the middle of October with above normal high temperatures expected for the next 2 weeks with some highs was warm as 90 next week.
The upper level pattern shows a large ridge with a west to east flow in the atmosphere. This pattern causes downsloping winds off the Rockies and leads to substantial warmth across the central Plains which eventually moves into our area. This is especially true whenever the wind direction is out of the west.
Model guidance is already outpacing climatology for this time of year. Highs next Monday and Tuesday will likely push into the upper 80s with many of low 90s. Not at all like Fall.
The Climate Prediction Center’s outlook for today reflect this pattern with high probabilities of above normal temperatures through October 19th.
