Springdale Celebrates Opening Of New Mountain Bike Trail

SPRINGDALE (KFSM) — The first phase of the Springdale Mountain Bike Trail officially opened to mountain bikers Tuesday (Oct. 6).

Springdale Mayor Doug Sprouse, the Springdale Chamber of Commerce, City Council, Parks & Recreation Department, police department, trail committee and the Walton Foundation were there for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The trail system includes a 1.5 mile-long single-track trail, a half-mile downhill flow trail dubbed Thunder Chicken that includes rollers, berms, jumps, drops and wooden features, a concrete pump track and a skills course.

The trail will eventually be expanded to more than 17 miles of multi-use soft-surface trails designed specifically for mountain biking.

Fifth graders from JB Hunt Elementary School were the first to officially open the trail, along with members of Ozark Off Road Cyclists and several families who came out for the grand opening.

The Springdale Mountain Bike Trail trailhead is located on Pump Station Road near Silent Grove Road and connects to the Razorback Regional Greenway, which is a paved trail for pedestrians and cyclists that stretches from Fayetteville north to Bella Vista.
